FAU Legacy
I was asked by Florida Atlantic University to speak at their MLK Legacy Banquet. They wanted me to present “Abuelitas Hand” and have a focus on leaving a legacy. I was excited to be able to do that program because it meant I would get to weave the story of my Abuelita and in with the story of MLK. Wow, what an honor.
As part of the trip I offered to a recruitment workshop for their MGC chapters. When I travel I like to stay busy, and I spent the morning on campus checking out how the Greeks do tabling events, I checked out what they call the “Breezeway” where groups table. I had the unique opportunity to watch how groups do tabling before I had my recruitment workshop.
The workshop went well, and I loved that afterwards two of the groups sent me examples of new flyers and information they were working on for recruitment based on what we talked about… as a speaker it is great to see the changes and benefits of your work right away.
The evening MLK Legacy Banquet was the most diverse crowd I have ever seen. Usually a lot of diversity programs are the minority students on campus, but this truly was an event that had all students there to celebrate the MLK Legacy. Afterwards for example I took pictures with the IFC and Panhel officers, so good to see them there supporting!
It was an honor to be there for the event. More of an honor to continue to see people impacted by the story of my little Abuelita. Gracias.
