Marian & Wisconsin Cheese
This past weekend I had a great time visiting Wisconsin, and namely the students and staff at Marian University in Fond Du Lac, WI. Since it was spring break time I took advantage of a great time to have my daughter come along on the trip. We decided to tour Milwaukee before heading up north to Marian. We enjoyed some sights, Man vs Food restaurants, the Bronze Fonz and of course some Wisconsin Cheese!
I was asked to come and do a review of the Greek Life community at Marian University. For the past few years their chapters have struggled, and the institution is looking for ways to help develop and grow the community. It is always nice when someone you have worked with in the past brings you to a new institution, I think 99% of my work comes through referrals and these are the best kind!
The history of Marian Greek Life and the campus is interesting. It was originally a women’s college, and still has a high percentage of female students. The Greek Life was all started in the mid-90s… so the community is very young and no traditions have been created yet. Their recruitment has gone through major ups and downs, and not surprisingly ebbed and flowed with changes in staff and levels of institutional support.
Over the next few weeks, months and maybe years I will be involved in the development of that community. There is a lot of potential, and some challenges to overcome before they can achieve major success. I will be outlining for the institution my recommendations for policies to aid in the development of the community, directions to head with resources, and some best practices for the type/size of institution. Report is in draft format already…
Thank you to the community at Marian for their openness during the interviews, and candor about the issues, challenges and all the opportunities that lie ahead of them. I am looking forward to helping this community move forward!
