SU Values Academy
In case you have not been to Syracuse, NY you need to visit. It is a great city, fun to walk, cool food and Syracuse University is a beautiful campus. Really cool architecture and more importantly a fun student body.
I had the pleasure of kickin’ off the SU 2013 Values Academy on Friday night. I wasn’t sure what to expect, it was a loud crowd, they got food just before my session and the mingle energy was great. I got to walk around and meet tons of groups, some I have worked with before, and some new to me.
I did my Abuelitas Hands presentation… customized it for this event, and worked in some Greek History and remembering our roots and Greek Values into the program. I never thought so many people would connect with the story, but have slowly realized it isn’t having a unique story that inspires… but that we all have similar inspirations in our lives. I am glad that I help remind people of those important stories.
Afterwards we had a good roundtable with advisors. Talked about some serious issues; hazing, recruitment, alumni commitment… well past the showcase, well past some bedtimes… but it was great. After that I had a great walk and conversation with Jessica Pettitt about all the awesome work she is doing with students around the country.
It was a quick trip… once again barely in town for 24 hours, but I got to eat at Dinosaur BBQ, good tour of town on foot, and even snuck into a random tailgate on my way to campus. I love to travel, see new places and more importantly, tell the story of my abuelita…
Thank you to Syracuse! Thank you to such amazing students! Thank you for being a great crowd!
